'Crucible' Off to Strong Start at Broadway Box Office
The play, which was written by Arthur Miller and stars Ben Whishaw and Saoirse Ronan, grossed $583,709 in seven preview performances last week — a healthy showing for a non-musical production.
“The Crucible” did better than any other play currently on Broadway, including the long-running hit “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” which has softened significantly at the box office over time. But all of the spring plays are lagging well behind the numbers racked up by two poorly reviewed celebrity vehicles last fall, “China Doll,” which starred Al Pacino, and “Misery,” which starred Bruce Willis.
