Hello!
I definitely think you should watch the film in its entirety. In my opinion, Cloud Atlas is /very/ moving in a lot of ways. I seen it twice for that very reason. Yes, there are scenes of violence but since you’re experiencing the film outside of the cinema, I’d suggest fast forwarding through the sensitive material if it truly makes you uncomfortable. I believe Cloud Atlas has a lot to offer and if you’re open to it, really open to it, than you might just find how enlightening it really is. The novel is even better, as most generally are in comparison to their film adaptations. Personally, I was quite engrossed in the Frobisher/Sixsmith segments (I’m biased) but I was equally moved with many of the other individual character segments as well. Everyone will gather their own opinions about it and be moved in different ways, if at all. I can’t tell you how you’ll perceive the story but I can /suggest/ giving it a proper try and not letting the brief violence turn you off. The slave scene you speak of, though it may be hard to watch, it is history after all. It’s not meant to be pretty and easily digestible. So yes, in a nutshell I think you should explore the film for yourself and take from the lessons and meanings what you will. Good luck!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoy my blog dear. x
